What is Eyelid Surgery?

Gynecomastia is the enlargement of breast in males. Gynecomastia is common among men. One or both breasts can be affected. In gynecomastia cases where one breast is affected, patient should be examined for benign or malign tumors. 40% of healthy, young males develop gynecomastia. For newborns and adolescents, this rate is 70%.

The main cause for gynecomastia is the imbalance of male and female hormones testosterone and estrogen in blood. Hormonal disorders such as below can cause gynecomastia:

• Low testosterone
• Some estrogen producing tumors.
• Liver (cirrhosis) and kidney diseases (kidney failure), hyperthyroidism

One of the rare causes of gynecomastia is the tumors of the adrenal glands or testes that can produces hormones. This problem must be treated.

What are the Treatment Methods for Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia has 3 degrees which are determined by the present condition and the underlying cause. Before surgery, patient is examined and the root cause of breast enlargement is found. Best treatment is determined with the examination which have to be performed in utmost detail and very carefully. Two treatment methods are preferred in gynecomastia.

1- Excisional Treatment

Excisional breast treatment involves an incision within the bounds determined in the dark area around the nipple. With this procedure excess tissue is removed easily. If needed skin may also be removed. Excisional treatment leaves a visible scar around the nipple which is the only downside of the operation.

2-Liposuction treatment

Liposuction treatment involves 1-2 mm incisions through which thin tubes are extended into the tissue. Excess tissue is removed via these tubes. Not causing any scars is an important factor which distinguishes this treatment from the others. After the procedure performed under local anesthesia, the patient can do his routine work on the same day. The recovery period is more comfortable, the recovery takes place quickly.

Gynecomastia operations can be performed by using general anesthesia or sedation. Patient can go home the same day or the day after. It is possible to return to work in about 5 days. The patient has to wait for 3 to 4 weeks to do sports.

WHAT IS TUMMY TUCK AESTHETICS (ABDOMINOPLASTY)?

Abdomen is very important for aesthetics. Due to the relaxation in the muscles that make up the abdominal wall, deformations such as sagging, fat accumulation and bloating are frequently encountered in the abdomen. Another contributing factor to this deformity is the cracked skin that forms on the abdomen after pregnancy.

Tummy tuck aesthetics or abdominoplasty is a procedure in which accumulated fat and excess skin is removed from the middle and upper abdomen area, making muscles of the abdomen wall firm and tight as before.

Tummy tuck surgery results are technically permanent but to ensure longevity one must both follow the exercise schedule and maintain weight. How is the Treatment Process in Tummy Tuck Aesthetics?

There are two methods used in tummy tuck surgery:

How Is Recovery After Tummy Tuck Surgery?

3 to 4 hours after total abdominoplasty the patient can stand and walk with the help of someone. 1 day after, the patient can walk without any assistance. The patient can take a bath after 2-3 days. In about a couple of days, the patient gets well enough to take care of himself.

For the first week after surgery, the patient should refrain from doing actions that can stress the abdomen like coughing, heavy lifting, straining. Patient can take a flight after 4-5 days. If feeling well, patient can return to work after 7-10 days provided that it is not a heavy work.

Mini abdominoplasty takes less time since it is done to a smaller area. It usually takes 1 to 1,5 hours. Recovery is quicker and easier. Patient can return to office work after 3-4 days.

WHAT IS ARM LIFT SURGERY (BRACHIOPLASTY)?

With arm lift surgery, the skin sagging that occurs in the arm is removed by surgical methods. Sagging in the upper, back and inner part of the arm usually occurs due to skin sagging and fat accumulation. This is because the skin and subcutaneous tissue are looser in this part. The prominent factors that increase the loosening of the skin and the tissue under the skin and cause sagging include:

• Aging
• Genetic tendency
• Gravity
• Frequent weight gain and loss
• Exposure to sun

Arm sagging that can be experienced for these and similar reasons brings an aesthetically undesirable appearance. Patients who want to get rid of this condition, which is aesthetically unappealing, usually have arm lift surgery.

The sagging in the arm is two-dimensional. It takes place both transversely and longitudinally. For this reason, the skin is cut both transversely and longitudinally with brachioplasty and the sagging skin is separated from the body. The excess transverse skin is removed through incisions made under the armpit. For this reason the incision scar remains hidden.

What is the Process Before Arm Lift Surgery?

As required in the preparation phase of all operations performed under general anesthesia, the patient must not eat or drink for 6 hours before brachioplasty operation. At least 3 days before the intervention, patient have to stop taking blood thinners such as aspirin.

The main principle in arm lift surgery is to remove excess skin and give the arm a tight appearance. The planning of the surgery is carried out depending on the amount of sagging in the skin of the arm and the thickness of the fat layer under the skin.

Arm lift surgery can be performed with different methods. The skin loosening that occurs with the weight gain and loss causes the skin to have a thicker appearance than normal. What is the Process After Arm Lift Surgery?

After arm lift surgery, rubber tube drains can be placed in this area to prevent bleeding and fluid accumulation. These drains are removed after a maximum of 2-3 days. Especially in the first days after the intervention, it is recommended to keep the arms high. A pressure bandage can be applied to reduce problems such as bleeding, edema and swelling that may occur in the operation area. After three days, an elastic bandage in the form of a sock wrapping around the arm is used to give form to the arm.

There is almost no pain in this process. If there is, it will be sufficient to use painkillers. Within a few days, the patient can return to ordinary life. In the first two weeks, the patient can only carry out  the daily activities. Provided that he does not use his arms, he can start sports such as running in the third week. It takes eight weeks to be able to play tennis and similar sports that require arm strength. For a certain period of time after arm lift surgery, the scar in the operation area becomes puffy and red. However, as time passes, this scar becomes thinner and faded, becoming less visible.

WHAT IS EAR AESTHETICS (OTOPLASTY)?

Ear aesthetics is a preferred method in the treatment of many deformities that are present from birth or occurred later. We can list the disorders treated with otoplasty surgery as follows:

• Absence or partial absence of the ear at birth
• Extra cartilage protrusions around the ear
• Ear being shrunk like crumpled paper (constricted ear)
• Pointy ears like Captain Spock(Stahl’s ear)
• Partial or complete loss of the ear as a result of an accident

What are the Anatomical Differences in Prominent Ear Deformity?

Prominent ear is congenital. Anatomically, the cartilage structure of the ear is different. The size of the auricle is mostly normal but there is an angle above 25 degrees between the head and the auricle. Especially when viewed from the back, it is more obvious how much this angle is. Prominent ear deformity can be seen in one or both ears and can be treated.

What is the Treatment Process in Ear Aesthetics?

The youngest age that the prominent ear surgery can be approved in our country is 12-13.  This operation is performed under general anesthesia in patients between the ages of 3-6 and under local anesthesia in patients after 12-13 years of age.

With otoplasty surgery, sutures are placed in the cartilage and the angle between the head and the auricle is reduced to what it should normally be. In particular, attention should be paid to making the upper part of the auricle closer. If this is not done and the middle part of the auricle is retracted while the upper part is not, an unpleasant appearance will form. If not enough folds form on the auricle, special stitches are made to make these folds apparent. Some skin is removed from behind the ear. Thus, after the operation, the accumulation of excess skin in the groove behind the ear is prevented. After the interventions performed on the cartilage of the auricle, the surface of the cartilage should be smooth and regular, and care should be taken to prevent scratch like marks on the edge of the auricle.

It has been a known fact for at least 150 years that removing only the skin is not enough for the correction of the ear deformity. Since the intervention takes place from the back of the ear, there is no visible surgical scar. With treatment, the problems detected in the auricle are taken care of. Ear aesthetic surgery takes about 1-2 hours.

How is the Process After Ear Aesthetic Surgery?

After ear aesthetic surgery, the patient uses a bandage covering the auricle for 1 week. It is important to use this bandage with great care. The bandage prevents the accumulation of blood in the ear after the operation and reduces the swelling to a minimum level. Infection, blood accumulation and similar negative conditions after otoplasty are rare.

There is no need to stay in the hospital after otoplasty surgery. Although the patient is bandaged, he can return to ordinary life after 2 to 3 days. However, all activities that require bending the ear should be avoided for 1.5 months. Stitches are removed within 10 days or dissolve by itself. It takes 2-3 months for swelling to go down and for the new form to be fully visible.

WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION?

Liposuction is a procedure in which excess fat in the human body is removed by surgical operation. The fat cells in the adult human body are fixed. The volume of these fat cells increases depending on lifestyle and diet. Weight gain is the result of an increase in the volume of these fat cells. A regular life, exercise and proper diet are the most important factors to get rid of extra weight. However, some people even though they live healthy can have stubborn fat accumulations that do not go away.

Some parts of the body do not get in shape easily by exercise and diet. The common ones include:

• Abdomen

• The inside of the thigh

Depending on the condition of the parts to be vacuumed, the duration of the operation varies between 1 and 5 hours. Cannula entrance holes are often not sewn or 1-2 stitches are placed. In some cases, cannula holes are used and special thin tubes are placed. With this application, it is possible to drain the serum accumulated inside.

During liposuction surgery, the area where the stubborn fattening is located, is inflated by using a special liquid injection. In the next stage, several incisions of a few mm length are made on or around this area. Considering the patient’s condition, metal tubes (cannulas) with a diameter of 2-6 mm are inserted into the subcutaneous layer through these incisions. These cannulas are connected to the vacuum device with transparent tubes.

The vacuum device is operated and the cannulas are moved at the appropriate depth in the fat accumulation areas and excess fat is started to be removed. The removal of fats by vacuum is continued until the desired body contour and a smooth skin surface are obtained.

Recently, ultrasound energy has also started to be used in liposuction surgery. With this process the excess fat tissues that are broken into pieces by ultrasound waves are then removed from the body by vacuum.

What is the Process After Liposuction Surgery?

After liposuction surgery, the patient should wear a special corset for about 3 weeks. The patient can go home on the day of the operation or the next day. After a few days, it is possible to return to work. After the operation, swelling and bruises are seen in the parts where fat is removed. After an average of 4 weeks, the bruises go away. At the end of approximately 2-3 months, the swelling decreases and full recovery occurs. Thanks to the physical exercises, massage or LPG applications performed after liposuction surgery, swelling decreases faster and there are less stretch marks in the skin.

WHAT IS BREAST AUGMENTATION (BREAST IMPLANT)?

Breast augmentation is a procedure performed on women who are unsatisfied with their breasts to regain a full and vibrant appearance. Factors such as age, weight gain and loss, and breastfeeding cause the breasts to lose their full and lively appearance over time. This situation can cause emotional states such as loss of self-confidence, self-dislike, and unhappiness in women. However, thanks to breast implant treatment, it is possible today to give an aesthetic appearance to the breasts in terms of shape and size. This has paved the way for women to have the looks they dream of. Breast implants play an important role in regaining the self-confidence that women have lost.

How is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

With the help of a breast prosthesis placed behind the breast, chest circumference measurements can be increased by one or several bra sizes.
